Description
Standard colours of South African planes from 1970s till 1990s
In mid-1975 South African Air Force introduced a standard camouflage scheme of Deep Buff and Olive Drab over Light Admiralty Grey, later modified by replacing Deep Buff with Dark Earth (all colours according to British Standard). Both combinations were widely used during the "Angolan Bush War" in 1970/80s and are still in use on some helicopters.
Two types featured a distinctively different camouflage: English Electric Canberra (overall PRU Blue) and Blackburn Buccaneer (Dark Sea Grey over PRU Blue).
It is also worth noting that due to lack of availability of original BS colours, SAAF used local equivalents (believed to be exact matches) with local colour names.
